Configuring Your Emlid Reach Receiver as a Base and Rover for FieldGenius® for Android™

Video Included Emlid Flow & FGA Complete Field Guide

This deployment guide walks through setting up your Emlid Reach RS2 or RS3 hardware configurations as a complete Base and Rover local RTK ecosystem. MicroSurvey FieldGenius for Android (FGA) serves as our premier software recommendation for driving data workflows alongside Emlid equipment. Base system parameters will be configured within the standalone Emlid Flow app layout, which is free to download for iOS and Android platforms.

Configuring the Base

  1. Launch the Emlid Flow mobile setup environment, verify that your target Base station instrument is outputting corrections over the internal LoRa radio, and log or modify your broadcast frequency rules.
  2. To guarantee consistent project repeatability, launch a New Project and record a positioning base benchmark point using one of three field techniques:
    • Averaged Single Solution Point: Ensure incoming correction parameters are turned completely off, disable the Fix Only constraint flag, and initiate single solution epoch averaging over your preferred site observation timeline (up to 1 hour; we recommend a 2-minute baseline window).
    • Averaged Fixed Solution: Apply real-time NTRIP corrections over a network stream to log a highly precise fixed data coordinate point using targeted observation averaging (up to 1 hour; we recommend a 2-minute window).
    • Manual Entry Configuration: Manually input your known baseline spatial coordinate benchmarks directly into the software dataset fields and choose Save.
  3. Once your designated Base marker location is cleanly saved to the active project, open your primary Base Settings screen layout and select Configure.
  4. Adjust your explicit Coordinate Entry configuration profile rule over to Manual, double-check that your physical structural Antenna height parameter matches reality, and select Choose From Project.
  5. Highlight and pull the saved reference point marker straight out of your database file. Your Base module is now completely operational.

Configuring the Rover

  1. Open Emlid Flow on your Rover hardware and align your primary Correction Input selection to use the internal LoRa radio. Ensure that your listening frequency precisely matches your transmitting Base frequency rules. Verify that your system Bluetooth Discoverability toggle is flipped to ON and confirm that one of your direct Position Streams is mapped over Bluetooth.
  2. Launch the main FieldGenius interface on your mobile data collector and open your active project file. Choose Select Instrument from the dashboard layout, tap Add Profile, filter down your corresponding Make and Model parameters, assign a unique device profile name, and click Create.
  3. Enter Set Up Communication parameters, run a hardware search for nearby wireless accessories, identify your physical Rover unit ID, and select connect.
  4. Open the Set Up Corrections configurations screen and choose No RTK (this allows raw data streams to flow directly without local software interference).
  5. Navigate to Set Up Antenna Height and input your exact physical pole configuration measurement. Your software environment applies all internal phase center antenna offset constants automatically.
  6. Set Up Active Tolerance criteria boundaries according to your contract constraints. Adjust software precisions and threshold presets manually if necessary.
  7. Declare whether your Emlid Reach RS3 configuration will leverage active internal IMU Tilt Correction options. Your Rover hardware profiling is now completely structured.

System Integration

Following this layout deployment strategy, the Emlid Reach RS3 operates seamlessly within MicroSurvey FieldGenius, mirroring performance metrics observed inside native Emlid Flow software environments. Real-time statistical indicators—including spatial standard deviations, active PDOP metrics, and live tilt compensation angles—display across the top instrument tracking bar. As soon as stable local LoRa radio corrections lock onto a reliable RTK Fixed resolution, you can securely execute your layout actions.
