Configuring a Base and Rover Using Emlid Caster

Video Tutorial Emlid Caster Cloud RTCM3 Corrections

This video guide provides a detailed, step-by-step walkthrough on using Emlid Caster to establish a secure cloud connection between an Emlid Reach RS3 configured as a base and an Emlid Reach RX operating as a rover. This universal cloud-casting method functions seamlessly with any NTRIP-capable hardware receivers that process standard RTCM3 format corrections over the air.

Step 1: Accessing the Emlid Caster Portal

The configuration process begins on your computer or mobile browser. Navigate to the official casting platform to either Sign Up for a new profile or Sign In to your existing dashboard. Once successfully logged into the console, you will be able to review your five free mount points, audit any connected receivers currently online, and copy the unique network credentials required for your hardware input fields.

Step 2: Provisioning Internet Connection on the Base

Because Emlid Caster operates over the internet rather than local radio links, both your base station and rover units must have an active cellular data or local network pipeline.

To establish an independent cellular data link on the base station, install an activated SIM card directly into the Reach RS3 hardware slot. With the SIM locked into place, open Emlid Flow and follow these navigation steps:

  • Go to the main Settings panel icon.
  • Select the network tab and toggle Mobile Data to On.

💡 Operating Tip: If you are connecting to your base station with an Android mobile device, ensure you bridge over the unit's local Wi-Fi network to initially load and adjust these internal system parameters. Once active, a cellular network reception bar will instantly display in the top-left status zone of the app layout next to the receiver's battery monitor icon.

Step 3: Streaming Base Corrections over NTRIP

With internet connectivity validated on the base station, remain inside the Emlid Flow utility app interface to direct the correction stream out to the cloud server:

  1. Navigate to the Base output section, select NTRIP, and tap the Edit action button.
  2. Carefully input the network parameters provided on your main Emlid Caster web management dashboard, including your assigned server Address, Port, unique Password, and target Mount point string.
  3. Save changes. If all criteria blocks match perfectly, your designated mount point entry will actively illuminate as "Online" on the Caster web dashboard monitor screen.

Step 4: Linking the Reach RX Rover

Next, switch over your mobile device connection to your target rover module; in this scenario, the lightweight Reach RX unit.

  1. Open your rover's configuration status screen and select the Correction input card component.
  2. Tap to edit your NTRIP parameters. The application allows you to build a completely new NTRIP device profile or simply update an existing legacy record inside your library.
  3. Input your dedicated rover connection fields. Keep in mind that your rover-specific login options are positioned slightly further down on the main Caster dashboard page.

Once saved, verify the communication link on your dashboard interface. If properly initialized, the rover will establish a secure handshake with the mount point stream, signaling that your network structure is balanced and your field kit is ready to capture precise coordinate points.
