This deployment guide details the collection process, project preparation, and software processing steps required to execute an Aerial-Ground map fusion of 3D Gaussian Splats (3DGS) inside Lixel Cyber Color. The featured dataset balances high-altitude overview context with fine-grained ground structural detail by combining imagery from a DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise drone alongside a handheld XGRIDS Lixel Kity K1 terrestrial scanner.

Field Data Collection

To ensure a flawless cross-platform alignment, both your unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and your handheld terrestrial SLAM scanner must capture their respective datasets with a rigorous, active RTK position fix. Any deviation from an RTK Fixed state will cause compilation failures during software map-fusion steps.

  • Terrestrial SLAM Pass: Carry out your physical site walk with the XGRIDS hardware normally. Prior to executing the scan, open the Lixel Go mobile controller application and verify that the LCC plus point cloud preference parameter is explicitly selected inside your primary camera settings window.
  • Aerial Mapping Pass: Once ground captures are secured, deploy the drone to execute a standard grid mapping automated mission over your primary subject space.
  • Vertical Photo Towers: Capture transition perspectives between the ground and sky. Execute a minimum of three to four independent image series by climbing the drone vertically from ground level straight up to your target mapping altitude. Point your camera frame directly at the subject and log frames at strict one-second intervals during a steady, controlled ascent. Conclude your flight routine with a clean nadir mapping pass.

Data Preparation & Directories

With field data stored, build a standardized local folder structure on your processing workstation to structure the data for the reconstruction script:

  • Initialize a new master project directory folder on your desktop.
  • Inside that master folder, generate two distinct subdirectories labeled exactly Drone and Lixel.
  • Transfer the entire raw mission project folder pulled from the K1 internal scanner hardware directly into your newly generated Lixel directory.
  • Copy over all exposure frames logged by the UAV payload and place them straight into the Drone directory. Then, copy over the four coordinate companion files supplied by the XGRIDS system.

To conclude file initialization, launch the standalone Extract Preview Poses companion utility application. Once processed, launch the built-in visualizer tool to cross-examine and verify that all calculated camera orientation poses register correctly across your target space.

Lixel Cyber Color Synthesis

Launch the main Lixel Cyber Color suite interface, specify your structured directories, and assign your data variables inside the Advanced Aerial-Ground Map Fusion configurations dashboard. Select the execute processing trigger to cue the background reconstruction loop. Once the data compilation sequence completes, the unified software engine outputs a highly photo-realistic Gaussian Splatting scene, seamlessly merging dense ground features with comprehensive aerial perspectives.
